Direct Debit Data Collection

Paper Direct Debit

Instruction can be taken for all new payers and these new instructions need to be lodged with the payer's bank. Copies of the Direct Debit Instructions should be retained for six years.

The best way to lodge these new instructions in electronically using AUDDIS (Automated Direct Debit Instruction Service). The originator sends the new payer details via BACS to lodge the new instructions and if any are rejected by their bank you will be able to pick up an AUDDIS rejection report.

Paperless Direct Debits

New Instructions can be taken from New Payers by:-

  • Telephone – The payer agrees to sign up for Direct Debits over the telephone by providing his account details to the originator or it's agent for the completion of the DDI.
  • Internet – The Payer provides his authority for Direct Debit Collections by completing an on screen Direct Debit Instruction.
  • Face to Face – In a face to face situation the new payer should be offered a paper direct debit form to sign. However if the payer agrees their details can be entered immediately into a computer without signing a paper mandate. The details must be sent direct to the processing centre and not re-keyed. The input format must follow an agreed script.
  • Telephone Keypad – The payer agrees to sign up for Direct Debit Collection and his details are entered by depressing the telephone keypad following a series of pre-recorded operator directions.
  • Interactive TV – the payer provides authority for Direct Debits by completing an on screen DDI.

It is mandatory to modulus check the payer's bank details while the sign up procedure takes place. It is recommended to validate the payers address and every effort should be made to know your customer.
