Direct Debit Information Centre
Information
Firstly your bank manager and his team should be able to give you advice on Direct Debits. The main question should be whether they can sponsor you as a Direct Debit Originator. Each bank has a Direct Debit Support Centre which can be accessed via your bank relationship team.
BACS has a very good website on www.bacs.co.uk which can give you general information and help make the decision whether Direct Debits would benefit your business.
All Direct Debit Originators are provided with a copy of the rules and regulations relating to Direct Debits. The rules are sent out to all new orginators but you may find this link useful to you. http://www.bacs.co.uk/Bacs/Businesses/Resources/Pages/Literature.aspx
Many businesses bill their customer with regular amounts and the automation of this process with Direct Debits saves a lot of time and removes the need for activity on both parties.
Changes in amount can be made by simply sending a new Advance Notice Letter to the payer
Your bank will probably steer you towards using a bureau in the first years which give professional guidance on the processing cycles and reports which will keep you efficient and confident to use Direct Debits in your business.
We are happy to provide help and advice. Our Bureau details are available on www.securecollections.com
